Art and Music

West Moors Middle School 201Art is taught to every child for one lesson per week. Pupils undertake a balanced programme of art, craft and design activities, working individually, in groups and as a whole class.

They work in a wide range of materials in two or three dimensions, on a variety of scales, for a variety of audiences and using the specialist equipment, for example printmaking, when appropriate.

They are given the opportunity to evaluate their own and other’s work, including the work of other artists, craftworkers and designers.  Pupils are taught to appreciate art in a variety of genres and styles from a variety of cultures.

West Moors Middle School 281Music is taught to every child for one lesson per week with opportunities for pupils to undertake extra (peripatetic) music lessons to learn to play an instrument. There is a charge for peripatetic music lessons.

Lessons include creative music-making, music appreciation and the general history and theory of music. The school encourages pupils to take part in a range of ‘performances’ e.g., concerts, plays, etc.
