All science lessons at West Moors Middle school take place in one of the two well-equipped science laboratories and are delivered by specialist science teachers. The curriculum includes the teaching of subject knowledge, investigation skills and application and awareness of science in everyday contexts. Where possible, trips are arranged to see science in real life situations.

As science is taught in units, some physics, chemistry and biology topics are covered within each year. Most lessons contain some practical activities, as these are enjoyed by most pupils. Assessment of science is a combination of formal timed tests, and a variety of activities to determine the pupils’ level of understanding and skills.
